Google Analytics Funnel Visualization as Analytics Funnel

Posted on: January 31st, 2011 by Lahiru Wijerathna No Comments
Google Analytics Funnel Visualization is the same as real funnel; It does the same funneling process. It’s a series of pages which visitors must pass to complete a journey in a specific web site. It visualize on visitor activity before reaching specific goal. As a real funnel, Google analytics funnel also has most volume with the funnel starting point, and it reduces along the path.Through Analytics Funnel visualization each and every successive page along the funnel path. It also shows Entrance and Abandon points specifically. Basically the idea of introducing funnel for your web site is to get the details of how efficiently and accurately direct your visitors through the web site. Google analytic funnel visualization describes how complicated and how hard or easy to use the specific page in you web site. Google analytic funnel is a complete analysis process. You can determine what the loosing factors are of your web site or specific web page. Such as page might not be designed well enough to be user-friendly or not efficient enough so that users don’t get enough information from this page. You might have lost lots of web site viewers from your site because of this page. Google analytic funnel is great solution to find these kind of matters. Google analytic funnel is optional part of Analytics goals. To set up analytic funnel visualization need to set up analytic goal first. Goal conversion path should be the last step of analytic funnel. Analytic funnel visualize how many visits comes to which part of the site. and how many visitors dropped along the path and which page. Introducing funnel to e-commerce site is a good idea. For example by integrating funnel , we can determine or explore what are the negative points without being buying. There are many reasons that will drop off visitors from a web site. Most cases filling out unnecessary forms might be the reason to lost your visitors. Through a analytic funnel it can visualize more identically. To visualize these types of things the Google analytic funnel might be the most appropriate tool. From this great tool you can track significant drops and reason for the lower conversion. Lets look how can we integrate this tool Log on to your analytic account with you analytic account user id and password. Now you are in profiles overview page Choose a website profile , and click edit Okay, now you are in the “Profile Settings:” page. In Profile Settings: page there is Goal section in middle of the page. There are four sets of goal and , for one set of goal you can add 5 goals and 5 funnels. All together 20 goals can be integrated to one profile, if you need more goals to be introduce with your website, you have to create more profiles. At there, click “Add Goal”. This will take you to the Goal page. Now you have to include goal information in this page so lets try to enter goal information. Enter goal name and click the radio button to “On” to activate the goal and set it’s position. The next important thing is goal type. We need to fix funnel so funnel visualization is most appropriate for the goal type, Url destination type. Select this goal type. There are more details to be filled under goal details, those are match type, goal url, and goal value. Match type is for types of matching url, the exact match option follows the exact url, the head match follows part of url with other dynamically generated characters. You can fill out goal value if you want to. Generically every goal follow a value. This is the idea behind goal value. After filling all necessary details, Then lets move to create funnel at the bottom of Goals. Now you can integrate funnel visualization. Keep in mind before forcing forward, Funnel has a specific path & this is a step by step process to reach a specific conversion. You can add as many steps as you need. Each and every step is to be unique and therefore, must point to a unique url. Follow these steps below to learn how to add a funnel: You can choose to make the first step in the funnel mandatory, by selecting the ‘Required step’ checkbox next to the funnel. If this checkbox is selected, users reaching your goal page without traveling through this funnel page will not be counted as conversions. Only users who reach the goal URL after viewing this first page will be counted as conversions. After doing these steps just press save. Log in to your account and select  the appropriate profile, in the left hand side there is “Goals”, under the goals menu , there is funnel visualization. Now you can see a nice funneling picture. Just like this. Google analytic funnel is one of the best ways that you can find errors, mismatches, or inefficient factors on you web site. I hope you enjoy Google analytic funnel.

Email signature is the block of text automatically appended to the bottom of an e-mail.  An e-mail Signature should be short and to the point.  It should also provide if available a company URL also, contact information. A standard e-mail signature includes 1.Name 2.Company Name 3.Address 4.Phone No 5.Web site. Google now better with indexing Flash contents … wow

Posted on: November 15th, 2010 by Lahiru Wijerathna 1 Comment
Now Google has better impact on SWF content … this is not new. The story begins in mid-2008 when Google announced that through a collaboration with Adobe, Google had significantly improved capability to index Flash technology based content. Google developed a new algorithm for indexing textual content in Flash files of all kinds, from Flash menus, buttons and banners, to self-contained Flash websites. Google also improved the performance of Flash indexing algorithm. Before launch Flash indexing system web designers faced a problem of presenting data via flash content. Because robots can not follow generic flash, they have to pay extra effort to present their data and sites on search engines. From the year 2008 Google has had the ability to index textual content in SWF files. This includes Flash “gadgets” such as buttons or menus, self-contained Flash websites. How on earth Google can do this miracle? Basically Google generates a snippet for your website. Also, the words that appear in your Flash files can be used to match query terms in Google searches. Google isn’t stop from here, Google Flash indexing algorithm has the ability to discover URLs that appear in Flash files, and feeds them into our crawling queue. This is very much similar to indexing non-Flash websites and web pages; it’s better on indexing in-links as well. Is there any special thing to do on your flash content to get index on Google?  No, you absolutely don’t need to do anything. This is good news for both web designers and for web masters. Google Flash indexing algorithm is mighty enough to find and index most things on your flash/SWF application. (But not all ) Earlier Google had a problem reading on SWF file loads with HTML, XML, or another SWF application. Both objects read separately and there isn’t any combination with two files between SWF which loads inside HTML, XML, or another SWF, but now that problem is also resolved. This means when a SWF file loads content from some other file such as HTML, XML, another SWF, Google can index this external content too, and associate it with the parent SWF file and any documents that embed it. Lets see what Google’s ability is on reading and indexing Flash contents, # . Index textual content displayed as a user interacts with the file. Google can click buttons and enter input, just like a normal user. # . Discover links within Flash files. # . Load external resources and associate the content with the parent file. # . Support common JavaScript techniques for embedding Flash, such as SWFObject and SWFObject2. # . Index sites scripted with AS1 and AS2, Google also index sites with AS3 as well. If you do not want your flash content index on google, just use your robots.txt file to keep away crawlers from you. It’s simple. From last month Google resolved some of their problem with JavaScripts, Now Google is better in indexing and handling sites that use JavaScript to embed SWF content. Also, Google improved their video indexing technology now they have better detection of when a page has a video and better extraction of metadata such as alternate thumbnails from Flash technology based videos. Still not all the matters are resolved for Google, Still they fail on indexing deep linking through SWF, and with JavaScript, which means they need to work on improving indexing of SWF files executed through JavaScript. Now Adobe & search engines like Google and Yahoo ! doing great with SWF contents. Isn’t this simply awesome !

Combine your mind with Google ( Google Wonder Wheel )

Posted on: August 9th, 2010 by Lahiru Wijerathna 5 Comments
This is a another great tool offered by Google. Launched in May 2009, this tool was built to help users find related and relevant search results. The Google Wonder Wheel truly is a wheel of wonders. It is a good SEO tool as well as a great search tool. Where can you find this great tool ? It’s on the left side of the Google search result page, beneath the “Everything” area, under the “All results” header. Just expand the “More search tools” and there you will find it. It’s similar to the human thinking system, every idea links to another idea or another resource. For example if you are thinking of searching something using Google search, displaying the wheel suggests additional or more specific search terms. By clicking one of these relevant search terms, another wheel of wonders with even more search terms appears. If you haven’t tried, Google Wonder Wheel, go ahead and give it a spin. There are many types of fish foods. If we type fish food the Google Wonder Wheel gives the result of–
  • tetra fish food
  • goldfish food
  • koi fish food
  • catfish food
  • tropical fish food
  • pond fish food
  • homemade fish food
The list has a nice graphical representation that is just like a carousel or Ferris wheel. Around the wheel there are branches of options for us to choose. From this list we can select the most appropriate key word for our related search. For example, if we select tetra fish food another Ferris wheel appears with these options:
  • tetra koi food
  • beta fish food
  • fresh water fish food
  • tetra pond fish food
  • tetra goldfish food
  • neon tetra fish food

Google Wonder Wheel

Now we can select some other related items from this Ferris wheel, such as tetra pond fish food. And the most relevant results for this search are displayed on the right side of the Google search page. Google Wonder Wheel is a great help for long-tail searches. It even helps you find niche search results more easily. Because of the Google Wonder Wheel’s graphical search environment. Your search experience will be better than ever. Whether you are a novice user or a web master Google Wonder wheel is a great tool to find what you are looking for in the Internet jungle. Google wonder wheel is a good idea for expanding or narrowing your Google search results. Yes, This tool is something like a mind mapper. It logically maps the idea that you are searching. Enjoy your search with Google Wonder Wheel.

Google Caffeine : Google’s New Search Engine Indexing System

Posted on: June 15th, 2010 by Lahiru Wijerathna 1 Comment
Google is now announcing their new indexing system called Caffeine. Google says Google Caffeine search engine indexing system is much faster than their older system. One advantage is that news stories, blog posts and forum posts are indexed better and faster allowing users to find links to relevant content much sooner after it is published than was possible before. Google Caffeine provides 50 percent fresher results for web searches than their last indexing system. According to Google this is the largest collection of web content Google has ever offered. Why did Google create a new indexing system instead of using the current index? Content on the web is continually expanding.  This content might be text, images, videos, news and some real time updates. Also present web pages are richer and more complex. From the Searches perspective it is also important to provide users with the latest relevant content . Publishers need content to quickly appear on the search engines shortly after their posts in search results. To meet these expectations Google implemented this new search indexing system. The image below explains the difference between the old indexing system and the new caffeine. Google Caffeine VS Old index system Before comparing the old index and caffeine, lets look how search engines crawl the entire web and store the data found there. When you search Google, you’re not searching the live web, you’re searching your query through the Google database, or index, or registery like we do in a library. If we want to find a specific book , first we go to the librarian or search the index of the library. After the librarian finds the specific place for that book we go to that rack to get the book. This index system, just like a card catalog in a library, helps you to find that specific content. Google does the same for you with it’s index of the web it shows the path to find relevant data for your search query. Google’s old indexing system had several layers, and some layers refreshed in a faster rate than others. The main layer updates every couple of weeks, this means there is some kind of significant delay from the published date. News for example though it is highly relevant shortly after it happens, tends to become history rather than news in a very short time. We live in a world of instant gratification and get news immediately on our cell phones or computers – even a week delay isn’t really acceptable. In Caffeine, Google analyzes the web in small portions and updates their search index rapidly, continuously, and also globally. If the “bot” finds some new information on existing pages it is directly added to their index, so for both searchers, and for publishers, if you need fresher information, here you have it. Publishers also can also publish their hot information and get it prioritized for indexing making it appear in searches much faster. According to Google in every second caffeine processes hundreds of thousands of pages in parallel, so the new indexing system is much busier than the old one, getting content indexed and available faster. Google – “We’ve built Caffeine with the future in mind.” Google’s idea is to build a faster and more comprehensive search engine that delivers more and more relevant results. Google engineers are still working on this great system, there will be some more improvements in coming months. We have to wait to see what those are.
